Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. portrays the role of Zorro's father, Don
Alejandro, in the new, original, and exclusive series "Zorro"
debuting in January 1990, on The Family Channel. Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. is best known to television viewers worldwide for his role as the no nonsense F.B.I. Inspector Lewis Erskin in the hit series "The F.B.I.," which ran from September 1965, to September 1974, on ABC. Zimbalist was personally approved for the role by then F.B.I. director J. Edgar Hoover. Zimbalist's character was a man of impeccable integrity and little humor. At the conclusion of some episodes, Zimbalist appeared to broadcast the photograph and description of certain real-life fugitives sought by the F.B.I. |
After having spent so many years driving fast cars, shooting automatic weapons, and wearing modern three piece suits, the role of the father of Don Diego set in 18th century Old California is a welcome change for the actor. "Zorro is almost classical in style and transposes you into a different mindset with its colorful costumes and sets," remarks Zimbalist. |
Born in New York City on November 30, 1918, the son of famed
violinist and composer Efrem Zimbalist and opera and recording
artist, Alma Gluck, young Efrem studied acting at the
Neighborhood Playhouse. He made his Broadway debut in "The
Rugged Path" and performed with the American Repertory
Theatre. Prior to "The F.B.I.," Zimbalist starred for six years in the popular "77 Sunset Strip" series from 1958 until 1964. Recent television work included a recurring guest starring role as Remington Steele's father on the series "Remington Steele." |

include "House of Strangers,"
"Bombers B-52," "The Crowded Sky," "House of Strangers," "By Love
Possesed," "The Chapman Report," "Harlow," "Wait Until Dark,"
